What is a Ground Terminal Block?
The dedicated component for protective earth (PE) and neutral (N) connections — the foundation of panel safety.
Safety First Principle
Unlike standard terminals, ground terminals must connect before live circuits and disconnect after them. This ensures that the protective earth path is always present, even under fault conditions. A compromised ground terminal is a life‑safety risk.
International Color Coding
Green‑Yellow for PE (protective earth) and Blue for N (neutral). This color code is mandatory and cannot be altered — instant recognition for any electrician worldwide.
Electrical & Mechanical Bonding
Ground terminal blocks feature a sliding contact that connects to the DIN rail, making the entire rail part of the grounding system. Standard terminals are isolated from the rail.
Higher Cross‑Sections
Designed to handle large fault currents, ground terminals typically accept larger conductor sizes than standard feed‑through terminals of the same width.
Compliance & International Standards
The dedicated component for protective earth (PE) and neutral (N) connections — the foundation of panel safety.
IEC 60947-7-2
The core standard for ground terminal blocks. It specifies requirements for protective conductor terminals including continuity between terminal and mounting rail, dielectric strength, and temperature rise limits.
UL 1059
UL standard for terminal blocks. Ground blocks must pass rigorous tests for current-carrying capacity, flame class (V0), and secure rail contact. Linkwell ground terminals are UL recognized.
Key Technical Requirements
Continuous metal path to DIN rail Green‑yellow housing (PE) mandatory Rated cross‑section up to 95 mm² or more Short‑circuit withstand (Icw) testing
Linkwell Ground Terminal Block Series
Built on the trusted LDB platform, now available in green‑yellow and blue, with the same V0 flame retardant housing and tin‑plated copper conductor.

Compliance & International Standards
The dedicated component for protective earth (PE) and neutral (N) connections — the foundation of panel safety.
- Selection criteria
- Current & wire size: match the protective conductor cross‑section (2.5 mm² to 95 mm²).
- Connection technology: screw (vibration‑resistant) or push‑in (fast installation).
- Color coding: green‑yellow for PE, blue for N — never interchange.
- Rail contact: ensure the terminal’s metal foot contacts the DIN rail firmly.
- Installation best practices
- Clean the DIN rail surface from paint or oxidation to guarantee low‑resistance bonding.
- Use a torque screwdriver – typical values 0.6–2.5 Nm depending on size.
- For multiple ground terminals, use green‑yellow jumper bars or a copper busbar (see LDB500).
- TN‑S / TN‑C systems: separate PE and N blocks, never mix.
Climate Control: Protecting Your Grounding Path
A perfect ground connection can be destroyed by corrosion. Linkwell’s thermal management keeps your terminals safe.
Thermostats & Heaters
Anti‑condensation heaters keep the internal temperature above dew point, preventing moisture film on ground connections – ideal for outdoor cabinets.
Cabinet Air Conditioners
Sealed enclosure air conditioners (500–5000W) control both temperature and humidity. No humidity = no galvanic corrosion on green‑yellow terminals.
Filter Fans
Our IP54/65 filter fans maintain positive pressure, keeping dust away from ground terminal contacts. Less dust means less moisture absorption and lower corrosion risk.

FAQ of Ground Terminal Block
Can I use a standard terminal block for grounding?
No. Standard terminal blocks are isolated from the DIN rail and do not provide the required continuous ground path. Only dedicated green‑yellow terminals with metal foot comply with IEC 60947-7-2.
Why are ground terminal blocks green‑yellow?
It’s an international safety color code (IEC 60446) for protective earth. It allows anyone to instantly identify the safety ground, even in low light or different languages.
Do ground terminals need to touch the DIN rail?
Yes. The metal mounting foot must make electrical contact with the DIN rail. The rail itself becomes part of the grounding circuit. Some rails require the paint to be removed at contact points.
What is the difference between PE and N terminal blocks?
PE (protective earth) is green‑yellow and connects to the grounding system. N (neutral) is blue and carries current in normal operation. In TN‑S systems they are separate; in TN‑C they are combined (PEN). Linkwell offers both.
